INSIDE THE COLLECTION
Staying true to the refined and sophisticated aesthetic of Jason Wu, the Pre-Spring 2017 collection delves into designs and details that are iconic of the house. This season was all about reworking classic Jason Wu design elements, like lace and floral prints, and creating a modern collection that maintains a sense of fragility.
Drawn to the rigidity of military greens and the delicacy of soft pinks, Jason used contrasting yet complimentary fabrics to create a beautifully raw collection of seasonable pieces. The house’s classic chalk, black, and indigo hues are re-formed into pieced-lace dresses and tops, sewn into an elegant spiral around the body, accentuating the form in a decidedly sensual way. Updates of his classical, feminine floral prints are used to construct a new sort of structural collage, in which strips of chiffon are layered to make up exquisitely delicate pieces. Sparing no attention to detail, Jason applied these unique techniques to a range of materials, from paper-light tweeds and fine silks to cashmere jersey. Combining contrasting fabrics, incorporating expert tailoring and raw materials, and juxtaposing harsh and delicate colors, the Pre-Spring 2017 collection emerges as a finely-tuned balance between deconstruction and control.
