INSIDE THE COLLECTION
Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2016 collection narrates an exuberant glamour influenced by mid
20th-century architecture. The collection draws on traditional craftsmanship that has been
broken down to the essential elements in order to create a modern look. Jason plays with
controlled angular shapes juxtaposed with soft curves to shape the silhouettes of the season.
He reinterprets traditional furniture materials from the time period, found in wood grain
organza, interlock raffia, and basket weave, giving way to a modern, romantic simplicity.
Jason’s intuitive drive for an elevated sense of refinement and sophistication is epitomized in the mood of the collection. The color palette evokes the practical yet bold glamour of the works of noted photographer John Rawlings. The cool warmth of ocean green and grounded colors of black, carob, sandstone with a fanciful pop of berry pink evoke an idealized vision of the lifestyle of the Jason Wu woman.
The artisanal wood grain textures on raffia organza dresses molded with architectural folded ruffles create a continuous elegant form. Embroideries using three different types of lace and raffia textured jacquard create a collage effect epitomizing Jason’s commitment to high quality craftsmanship and creativity. The bold multicolored floral print draws upon abstract expressionism.
